ABOUT THE ARTIST
Jan Swanson is a graduate of Clemson University and a native of Asheville, NC. She is the former owner of the Bus Stop Gallery in Columbia where she held 11 art shows in four years and represented more than 200 artists from North and South Carolina, Georgia, California, New York, Alabama and several other states.
A self-taught artist working in oils, she has taken drawing and painting classes at the University of South Carolina, Columbia College, Anderson Ranch, Arrowmont School of Arts & Crafts and Penland School of Arts & Crafts. Jan is represented by Camellia Art Gallery in Hilton Head Island, SC.
In December 2018 Jan was selected by Jasper Project as one of featured artists for Columbia Opportunity Resource’s (COR) Time for Art Gala at the Columbia Museum of Art. She also received the Hal P. Moore Award of Merit at 2018 SC State Fair
Her painting, “Barney in the Shadows”, was the first-place winner in the Mixed Media Division at the 2013 South Carolina State Fair and was accepted into the Carolinas Got Art competition. She also won first place in mixed media division at SC State Fair in 2015.
