ABOUT THE ARTIST

JAN SWANSON

​

Background

A self-taught artist working in oils, collage, and acrylics, Jan Swanson has taken drawing and painting classes at the University of South Carolina, Columbia College, Anderson Ranch, Arrowmont School of Arts & Crafts and Penland School of Arts & Crafts.

 

Jan grew up in Asheville, NC, graduating from Asheville High and Clemson University. She started her career in Clemson’s Public Relations Department which led her to Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem and then the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga. Later, she would move to Columbia. In May of 2022, Jan and her husband and dog moved to her renovated great grandparents’ house in Weaverville, N C. She paints every day in her studio at the renovated Capitola Mill in Marshall, NC overlooking the French Broad River.

 

Jan has been painting for more than 20 years and has received numerous awards for her work.  Her work is represented by Camellia Art in Hilton Head and Bluffton, SC.
